(Conditioning Pavement Rejuvenator)
The CPRtm Asphalt Treatment Program is Designed to Extend the Life of the Asphalt and Reduce Overall Pavement Maintenance Costs
Asphalt aging is a fact and it begins as soon as it is manufactured at the plant. Heated to over 300o F., the maltene fractions in the asphalt begin to oxidize. As it travels from the plant to the paver, compactor, etc., asphalt cools down. This “expansion/contraction” process, caused by heating and cooling, further accelerates the aging process which ultimately leads to asphalt deterioration. Whether at the plant, in transit, being applied or in place, ASPHALT AGES.
New asphalt pavement is black in color and flexible. Once asphalt is in place, the sun’s ultra-violet rays accelerate oxidation of the maltene fraction. One to three years later, the pavement hardens and the appearance of loose “fines” on the surface is detected. This is early evidence of pavement deterioration. If untreated, the asphalt will continue to harden and become extremely brittle, resulting in hairline cracks. As water enters these cracks, they expand and multiply. Traffic movement breaks up the asphalt, causing potholes and other pavement failures to occur.
Conventional surface treatments are just that – they remain on the surface and quickly oxidize increasing viscosity, which, in time, leads to pavement failure. CPR penetrates the surface of the asphalt restoring essential oils necessary to combat the effects of the sun and weather and restoring asphalt plasticity. After CPR treatment, the kneading action of traffic flow increases the flexibility of the pavement, further reducing cracking and other deterioration. CPR seals the asphalt pavement to prevent contaminants, such as fuel, from further damaging the asphalt. Conventional products are “painted on”, and offer only a temporary, cosmetic appearance, requiring re-application in as little as 18 to 24 months. Utilizing CPR treatment program in 3 to 5 years cycles, effectively preserves and protects the asphalt before it has a chance to fail. For this reason, CPR is recommended for use on new pavements as well.
Pavement replacement is a huge expenditure. By utilizing the CPR Pavement Treatment Program, the life of the pavement can be extended, while maintaining a like new appearance. The need for costly replacement or repetitive overlays is eliminated, thereby drastically reducing overall pavement maintenance costs.
